I created this project during my tenure as a Drama Instructor for a summer camp. As part of my original curriculum for the summer, I wanted to venture beyond the performance-focused pedagogy for young people by introducing the concept of theatre as a collaborative art form. This project was conceived specifically to highlight the production design behind a show. I built a model of a Broadway-style proscenium stage out of black foam and glue. Then, after a review of educational outreach materials for Wicked and Lion King, provided crafting materials for students to begin designing and creating set, costume, and lighting designs to fill the empty model. The kids were incredibly quick to take simple direction and apply it to . My suggestion to selectively use lighting “fixtures” based on the scene and characters
